The Following details apply to all workshops:

Location and Parking

In-person courses are held at Saint Louis University. A confirmation of the location, including a map of the venue and parking instructions, will be emailed upon registration. Parking is always included in the registration.  

Online courses are held via Zoom. A link is sent via registration and includes a calendar reminder. Registrants must access the course via the email address provided upon registration. 

Additional Information 
  • Participants are encouraged to arrive 15-30 minutes before the scheduled start time to allow sufficient time for parking, check-in, and networking. 
  • Parking maps will be included in the registration confirmation email. 
  • Accessible parking spaces are available at all SLU facilities in accordance with University accessibility policies. 
  • Building access instructions will be provided for evening and weekend events in the registration confirmation email.  

Cancellation Policy

We understand that schedules change and encourage participants to notify us as soon as possible if they are unable to attend. For information about possible cancellation on campus at SLU due to inclement weather, call 314-977-SNOW(7669).  

Full refunds are allowed for registration canceled at least five business days before the first day of the registered program.  

Additional Information 
  • Registrants may request cancellation by contacting the Continuing Education office. 
  • Registrations may be transferred to another course when appropriate.
  • Participants who do not attend and do not notify the Continuing Education office are not eligible for a refund. 
  • If SLU must cancel an event, participants will be notified promptly and offered a refund or alternate registration option. 
  • In the event of severe weather or other emergencies, updates will be communicated through email.

  • Participants joining virtually should ensure access to reliable internet service and a device capable of supporting Zoom or other designated platforms.

How do field instructors receive Continuing Education discounts?

SLU greatly values the contributions of field instructors and is committed to supporting their professional growth. 

Eligible field instructors may receive: 
  • Discounted registration rates for selected Continuing Education programs. 
  • Advance notice of upcoming training opportunities. 
  • Access to specialized supervision and leadership workshops. 
  • Invitations to selected School of Social Work events and professional development opportunities. 
  • Discount eligibility and available programs may vary throughout the year. 

How do I become a new field instructor?

Professionals interested in mentoring future social workers are encouraged to join SLU's network of field education partners. Review the Field Instructor Handbook (PDF) for field education policies and procedures. 

To become a field instructor: 
  • Meet applicable qualifications and agency requirements. 
  • Complete required field instructor training. 
  • Work with the Office of Field Education to establish a student learning environment. 
  • Participate in Orientation and ongoing communication with Faculty Liaisons. 

What training is required for field instructors?

Field instructor training supports effective supervision and student learning. 

Training topics may include: 
  • CSWE competencies and accreditation expectations. 
  • Effective supervision techniques. 
  • Student evaluation processes. 
  • Ethical and professional responsibilities. 
  • Culturally responsive supervision. 
  • Feedback and coaching strategies. 
  • Student support and retention.
